Austin bills itself as one of the most progressive cities in the south (and, for that matter, pretty much the rest of the country). This is apparent in its widespread acceptance of the gay community. In fact, not one particular area of the city stands out above others as being more popular among gay guys. The entire city is welcoming, friendly and generally accepting of gay culture; it is not uncommon to see gay bars or clubs in many different neighborhoods throughout the city.
The actual gay nightlife of Austin is relatively small but there are a few bars that attract more specific kinds of guys. Charlie's, the oldest gay bar in Austin, is popular among Daddies and has an older crowd in general. Charlie's is both a restaurant and a bar so the vibe of the place is more low-key than other bars in Austin. In the Warehouse District of Austin, Rain is a popular hangout for Daddies and Hunters as well.

There are always events going on in this bar that appeal to a younger crowd, especially from many of the nearby colleges in Austin. The Chain Drive is a popular bar in Austin for Bears and more mature guys overall. The bar is usually full of Bears and leather Daddies and has a devoted following in the city.
