Chicago, with a population of almost 3 million people, is an important hub of gay culture in the Midwest. “Boystown” or Lakeview is one of the most popular areas for gay men in the city and the first recognized “gay village” in the United States. Northwest of downtown, this area contains the highest concentration of anything gay related in the city (bars, restaurants, hotels), especially on Halsted Street. On the north side of the city, Andersonville is another popular section of Chicago for gays. Once a primarily lesbian-oriented neighborhood, Andersonville is now the second largest community of gay men in Chicago. In the heart of the city, Wicker Park is quickly becoming a more gay-oriented locale.

Although Boystown dominates the gay scene in Chicago, the gay population in Andersonville accommodates Daddies more than other areas of the city. Scot's and Marty’s are two bars in the area that cater to an older crowd. Since Boystown is so popular, it too has a significant number of Daddies in the area but also has many younger gays in the area. Sidetrack, a bar in Boystown, has different themed nights, some of which attract more Daddies than others and Buck's Saloon is popular among older men as well. Charlie's Bar draws in the Daddies too, especially for trivia night.

For Hunters, Boystown is comprised of a much younger crowd but still houses Daddies as well. Manhandlers is an infamous bar for Hunters to find Daddies and vice versa. Roscoe's, on Halsted Street, is possibly the most popular gay bar in the city (along with Sidetrack) and is often full of younger men. Spin is a gay club that invited the younger gays to their many themed nights

Chicago also attracts a large bear population due to the annual Bear Pride Festival that they hold. Bears may also want to check out Andersonville,
as the population tends to be older. Two of the more popular bear bars in the city, Jackhammer and Touche, are both located just outside of Andersonville.

Since it is the largest metropolitan area in this part of the country, Chicago hosts many gay events throughout the year. Some include:
